We're getting details on a serious swimming accident involving Homestead grad and current IU Wide Receiver, Isaac Griffith.

According to the report from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Department, Griffith, a friend, and 2 other members of the IU football team were drinking in their hotel room and then decided to go to a nearby beach.

The 4 then went swimming and a strong current started to take all 4 away from the shore.

A short time later, Griffith was 15 yards beyond the swim buoy and in distress.

A friend rescued Griffith, took him to the beach, and performed CPR.  He was then taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and according to the incident report, Griffith's cat scan result came back normal.

Griffith is currently in critical but stable condition and remains in a medically induced coma.

Now the family released the following statement.

"We deeply appreciate the prayers and outpouring support coming to use through tweets, calls, and messages both from Florida and Indiana.  We are seeing positive signs throughout the day and winning small battles that give us hope."
