High school athletes all over the area are training for their upcoming seasons, including Tim Mannigel's Cadets.

Concordia is trying to top last years run to the Regionals. The guys finished the season a very successful 9 and 4, but dropped to West Lafayette by just 4 points. This year the team is going have to make their state tournament run with out the quarterback that led them so far last season, David Morrison.

Coach Mannigel comments on the quarterback situation..."We have guys who I think can step up. I don't know if they will be as good as David was as a senior in their first games, but I think there's potential there to be that good eventually. hopefully sooner rather than later."

While Coach Mannigel feels good about the quarterback position, there is a concern on how committed some players are to the summer weight and conditioning program.

"We've been struggling with that a little bit to be frank. There are guys who have committed totally, they will have great years. I hope we have enough guys that have committed totally," said Mannigel.

Senior Lineman Tyler Grepke said, "I think you get out of it what you put in it. People that show up everyday, they're going to benefit greatly from it, but others need to show up more often. But, I think it's helped us as a whole."

Senior Linebacker John Pynchon commented, "The guys we have coming out each and every day are really improving skill wise and strength wise. I think it's gonna help us benefit throughout the year."

As far as expectations for the season, the message is simple. Just play the Concordia way and everything will take care of itself.

Said Pynchon, "We can do whatever we put our minds to and that's what Concordia football is. We just gotta give 100% each and every day."

"Our expectations as a coaching staff at Concordia is always for our guys to play hard and have great effort from beginning to end. And we continuously tell our guys if that happens then generally the score will take care of itself," said Mannigel.

The Cadets go in to action August 22nd, when they travel to take on the Redskins.
