Dwenger took part in one of the most thrilling high school football games ever played, but dropped to Columbus East by a single point, for a title, that by all accounts, belonged to the good guys.
Well it's a new year and the team is working on getting back to the championship game, but they're gonna have to do it without a few key players, including their signal caller, Mike Fiacable.
Coach Svarczkopf said, "A couple people that I'm looking at right there, probably the front runner is Cody Miller. Cody was a starter as a Sophomore, and then last year he would fill in behind Mike Fiacable."
Miller explains what he's been doing in the offseason to prepare to take over at quarterback. "Work on my footwork, making sure that I throw the ball a lot, and have accuracy."
With a month to go before their first game, Center/DE David Peters explains how he feels..."I'm so excited, the whole team is, we got South Side first game at Zollner, in fact we have three home games in a row, with Concordia, and North Side, so our whole team is excited."
Svarczkopf, a 12 year veteran of Dwenger, says his apparoach has changed over the years, but he still just wants his kids to have fun. "Hopefully I'm more patient, you know try to understand that it is a game and it's not life or death, and theses kids are out here because they want to enjoy life, and it's my job to make that happen."
The Saints kick off the season on August 22nd, when they welcome South Side to Zollner.
