These negotiations have been going on for months, and through it all, Fort Wayne Fire Chief, Amy Biggs has been absent.
City Councilman Mitch Harper, (R-4th) asked the question, has the city administration instructed Chief Biggs not to attend these meetings?
“We've got two very capable people serving as fire chief and police chief yet we don't see them before City Council, they aren’t available,” said Harper.
Now, another public figure is asking the question. Jeremy Bush is the president of Fort Wayne Professional Firefighters Union.
Pat Roller, City Controller, denies these claims that Fire Chief Biggs was asked to stay away from the council table during budget negotiations.
“The Director of Public Safety now represents both the fire and police departments,” said Roller.
Former Police Chief Rusty York is now the Director of Public Safety. He has been present at some of the budget negotiations , but Tuesday he was out of town and Chief Biggs wasn't in attendance either.
“I think there needs to be a plan in place if the public safety director can’t be there then I think our Fire Chief should be. I would have liked to have seen our chief speak to some of our concerns,” said Bush.
