WFFT has been following this investigation since it first began and so far there have been mixed opinions about the quality of care at our regional VA hospitals.
Veterans WFFT spoke with have differing opinions about the resignation but most add that this is not a fix to the problem with VA healthcare.
"If anyone thinks it's going to solve the problem, it's not going to."
Clark Brauner believes Shinseki's resignation was inevitable, however there's a bigger problem.
"I think Congress needs to adequately fund the Veterans Association and staff it."
Both Brauner and Dave Clark agree with Shinseki's resignation saying it will cause more problems.
"Would have been better to keep him there cause no one else knows it as much as he does."
"I don't think he should have resigned at this time, it's too big of a problem for one man."
Shinseki offered his resignation to Obama and with regret, Obama accepted.
"He doesn't want to be a distraction because his priority is to fix the problem and make sure our vets are getting the care they need."
Over 1700 veterans are still seeking appointments across the country.
"Ordered to contact every veterans in Phoenix waiting for an appointment to get them the care that they need and they deserve."
Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly said in a statement that this resignation by itself fixes nothing. This issue requires more than a change in management.
Senator Dan Coats said in a statement, "This isn't just about one man. It is about a culture change. We need to hold accountable those who were carrying out or encouraging these practices day to day and we must ensure that the VA health system provides the responsiveness and quality care our veterans need."
Manuel Fernandis is the Commander of the American Legion Post 296 and says, "It makes me feel sad that veterans were promised this and a lot of them volunteered."
Fernandis believes this is an issue that's been going on for years, under many administrations. He says it's completely unacceptable and going to take a lot of work to fix this problem.
