"Until the F-35, we're going to enjoy the F-16's but again we're never going to lay our head down, but we know things do change and will change but for today, we can rest that this is going to be a fighter wing."
Senator Coats said this a greats news in a time of downsizing, and that this helps put Fort Wayne into position to get the F-35's when they start rolling out.
"They earned it because they have been rated over and over as one of the very best, if not the best Air Fighter National Guard Wing in the country. We have the right facilities, the length of runway, everything is in place and I'm just really proud of Fort Wayne."
Senator Donnelly is a member of the Senate Armed Force Committee and released this statement, "The Air National Guard Airmen in Fort Wayne have a proud history of protecting our country and I welcome the announcement that the 122nd Fighter Wing's Air Combat Mission will continue. As we confront budget challenges in the coming days and weeks, I will continue to advocate for responsible decision making and investments in the Air Guard personnel, training, and infrastructure. The 122nd Fighter Wing has earned a reputation for excellence in the Air National Guard and I strongly support a continued combat mission."
