Tuesday night several churches came to the Youth for Christ Center in Bluffton joining together in a prayer service, praying for recent events that have happened in the community.

As many as 8 churches from the area were in attendance, bringing parents, students, and teachers’ together believing prayer is what is going to get this tight knit community through tough times.

Bluffton High School's Athletic Director Steve Thompson hit his head on the pavement after horsing around with the principal which left Thompson in critical condition for days.

Bluffton Harrison Metropolitan Superintendant Wayne Barker said this prayer service was important for him to attend outside of a school setting.

"I'm grateful to live in a community that knows the power of prayer. This is a community that knows the power of prayer. This is a community that for a long time has been a community that understands there's power in prayer," said Baker.

Others at Tuesday night’s service said the community has really come together in a time of need and they know that the healing power of God will help Steve Thompson heal.

Steve Baker, Bluffton High School’s Principal, said he is humbled from all the support the school has gotten from the community.

As of now the Athletic Director is improving and nurses have said he could make a full recovery.
