Parkview Nursing Students Open Time Capsule from 1953
Thursday evening graduates of the Parkview Methodist School of Nursing gathered at the hospital's Randallia campus to take photos and share memories before the building is torn down later this month. Organizers at Parkview surprised the group by presenting a time capsule that was put in the building back in 1953.
Marlon Wardlow, V.P. of operations at Parkview Hospital helped organize a surprise for the nurses, a time capsule from 1953 that was placed in the cornerstone of the building.
"We were able to retrieve it. And most of the members here don't know about it so I think it's going to be a big treat for them," said Wardlow.
Inside the time capsule were a number of documents representing the generation that helped shape the nursing school, which has since moved to IPFW's campus.
The former school of nursing and a parking garage will be demolished later this month to build a surface parking lot. Parkview officials say they plan to give out up to 2,000 bricks from the building to former nursing students.
