Owners and members of a local gym decided to give Erica a gift that will help her get around a whole lot easier.
"I was in a car accident 7 years ago. I was driving my car on 69 and it was like rush hour."
Erica Predum's life changed in the blink of an eye when she veered off the road and lost control of her car. After going over the median, Erica's car flipped several times, ejecting her onto the road.
"When I fell out of the car, I broke my neck. That caused a spinal. That means I'm paralyzed from here on down."
"I actually started crying. The police officers were trying to comfort me, but I just kept on crying."
Since the accident, Erica and her family have made huge strides to live the most normal life as possible. One thing holding her back was the need for reliable transportation.
"I had seen Erica's van. It wasn't very safe. It was very old, breaking down so many times she couldn't come train with me because her van was just...it would break down or she needed something done to it."
Erica's insurance doesn't cover physical therapy, so David Hernandez, owner of Sud'n Impact Gym, offered to train her, a little over a year ago. He saw Erica's need and wanted to help.
Since October of last year, his gym has been holding fundraisers in order to raise money to buy Erica and her family a new handicapped accessible van.
"We just said 'let's go for it', it doesn't matter how long it takes to do it."
Erica's dream came true.
"I'm so excited, I think I'm gonna cry. It's like a dream come true. Like I've been trying to get a van that I could drive for probably I'd say like 4 years now but I never gave up. I never gave up for it."
