An early morning shooting leaves five men wounded with one in critical condition. The shooting happened on Fort Wayne’s south east side of town near the Southtown shopping plaza.

The Fort Wayne Police Department recently launched a new police unit to handle the city's gang problem. That unit is already being put to work to handle this mornings shooting because police say so far all the victims, could likely be a suspect as well.

"All of the victims are confirmed gang members," said officer Chris Felton of the Fort Wayne Police Department. He said calls started to come in around 4:30 Sunday morning. Police arrived at the Villa Capri apartments and found two men with gunshot wounds.

Less than an hour later police were told that three more shooting victims were privately transported to local hospitals. Police believe those five men were shot in this intersection of East Tillman and Lafayette.

"They found shell casings and glass, vehicle glass,” said Felton. The disturbance started at a local bar between two rival gangs. The rival gang members chased each other in vehicles down to Lafayette and Tillman where the gun battle ensued."

Police haven’t said which bar the gang members came from or which gangs are involved. After taking a look at past shootings over the last five days, they have all been within a mile of each other and also said to be gang related. It’s not yet known if they're related to this shooting.

One of the victims in this shooting remain in critical condition this evening. Three are seriously hurt and the other is in stable condition. No names have been released yet and we will have more information when it becomes available.
