As part of the effort to revitalize downtown, a new festival is coming to Fort Wayne this Spring.  "Kickstart" is a 1 day festival celebrating bikes, art, and music.

With the weather we've had this Winter, a lot of us have spent too much time cooped up inside.  On Saturday May 17th, the "Kickstart" Festival will literally kick off Summer with working out, shopping downtown, and enjoying music and art.

This festival will kick off with the Fort4Fitness Spring Cycle Tour.  This is the 3rd year for the cycling event.  Jon Bomberger with Fort4Fitness says they are thrilled to be a part of this new festival.

"We get about 30-40% of our participants are going out for their very first organized bicycle ride.  Which is a fabulous way to get Fort Wayne active and interested in bicycling as a way to keep fit."

In honor of IPFW's 50 year anniversary, they will be dedicating their "sculptures with purpose", 50 artistic bicycle racks.

"That will transform this community visually.  It's our first public art project that's permanent.  It will be art, sculpture, but you attach a bike to it, so it's a bike rack."

May is also bike month, so Susan Mendenhall, the President of Arts United, is excited to combine activity with art.

"My goodness, Fort Wayne is a vibrant, creative community and these sculptures, this artwork is going to make us look like one."
