There was a memorial service to honor all of the officers that have lost their life in the line of duty as 47 men and women were remembered.

One of which was Jackie Deuter's father who died when she was just 7 years old back in 1998.

"I just think it's really cool to be able to come out here and know that he is still remembered by so many people.  Just to see all the officers remembering, and to be able to talk to all our old friends and see them, it's just a good way to keep his memory alive."

State Senator Tom Wyss was also honored at the ceremony for his part in passing legislation to help make roads safer.  Senator Wyss says he was completely shocked when they called him to the front.

"I can't explain how much of an honor this is to me out of this very special group of people.  My whole life I've been close to law enforcement, of course when I got into the Senate it allowed me to be a lot closer with legislation that helped these guys out."

The last State Trooper to pass away was almost 4 years ago in a traffic crash near Indianapolis.
