The greater Fort Wayne area has been holding events to celebrate Memorial Day all weekend. Many have been waiting for the annual parade. WFFT was out along the parade route this morning. She has more from participating organizations and the people who look forward to this event every year.

Fort Wayne’s Memorial Day parade has been ongoing for decades. Like every year, thousands of people march down Parnell Ave. from state to spy run for the parade to come to life.

"I get goose bumps when I do these, I really do. The people are great, they always support us. I love it," said Steve Cobb.

Cobb is a veteran and currently works with the American Legion Riders Chapter 82. He says he's been apart of the parade for close to a decade and does it for those who have paid with their lives.

"All the people before us that gave their lives and of course the current troops out there now protecting our rights, it means a lot," said Cobb.

The Northside Neighborhood Association has been involved since the parades inception about 70 years ago.

"It runs right through the heart of our neighborhood association,” said Dan Wire, a member of the association. “We always put a float in the parade honoring our veterans.”

Hundreds of families line the street to cheer on our local heroes.

The celebration wraps up at the Memorial Coliseum where dozens more pay tribute by showing their patriotism and respect.

"We actually do it every year, we go out and support the troops,” said Tamara Fogle, a parade goer.
