After percolating on her dream for twelve years, a local business owner opened her coffee shop last year.

Today, the Downtown Grind coffee is serving up coffees from our region.

It's this week's Locally Made Monday.

Owner Alana Jacquay planned this move for twelve years.

In February of 2012, she opened the 'Downtown Grind'-n the corner of Pearl and Harrison Streets.

"And I finally just kind of took a leap of faith and opened up," says Jacquay.

Nearly all the brews in the shop come from northeast Indiana.

"We get our flavored coffee out of Wabash, and our regular and bold espresso is from Fort Wayne," says Jacquay.

And those pastries.

"Yes, I do all the baking here. The only thing I don't bake is our doughnuts- we get those on Friday out of Harlan," says Jacquay.

Even the salads, sandwiches, and hot, soft pretzels covered in cheese are made from local ingredients.

Jacquay says going local goes beyond the sounds and the smells.

It has meeting rooms available to rent, and free wifi.

She fully supports the downtown community and wants her shop to be a local gathering place- a vibrant place in the growing downtown area of Fort Wayne.

"I think it's going to grow. It's growing every month. I think people are getting more into the downtown lifestyle," says Jacquay.
