Many of the signs you see every day in buildings across the region- inside city halls, the library, even those signs on bathroom doors- come from right here in Fort Wayne.

It’s this week's edition of Locally Made Monday.

Diskey Architectural Signage celebrates ninety years next year.

And for the past fifteen, they've added all kinds of digital and laser printing.

And they say it's a sign of their future.

"Our primary business is architectural signage, which is mostly the interior signs with the raised letters and braille dot,” says owner Mike Butler.

You've probably seen some of these signs.

Diskey Architectural Signage has made them right here for nearly ninety years.

"We make about a thousand of those a week, send them all over the country. That's the heart of the business, and it was pretty much getting to that around fifteen years ago,” Butler says.

Butler bought the company fifteen years ago.

He's taken it from just the signs and updated the product line to decals, trophies, laser products, even canvas printing, and stained glass.

"When I bought the company, New York was our biggest market. We were selling more signs in Manhattan, including Columbia University, then we had here in the whole state of Indiana,” butler says.

Now, Diskey sells across the state, especially locally, and has expanded nationally.

With fifteen employees, it brings several million dollars a year into the region.

"An architect came in a few minutes ago. We design signs for him, he'll show them to his customer, the customer will approve it. We'll give them a price, we'll probably end up making the signs, installing them, and then over the years, if they need a new sign, or a changeable insert, we'll service those things indefinitely,” Butler says.
