A perfume company in Ligonier started in an attic thirty years ago-
And today is the only active perfumery in the country.

WFFT has this week's Locally Made Monday.

The Annie Oakley Perfume company has called Ligonier home since 1980, but has come from here, and grown worldwide.

Inside the factory and showroom, you can smell why the Annie Oakley Perfume Company is so popular.

Owner Renee Gabet started making jewelry, selling it at fairs and farmers markets in Fort Wayne and the region.

In 1980- she made a change that made 'scents'.

"The natural perfumer and I designed the first cowgirl fragrance together, and of course, Annie Oakley is the first company to launch a western fragrance globally," Gabet says.

Annie Oakley is the only company producing high-end scents in the US.

Many of the ingredients they buy are among the best in the world- like frankincense from Egypt.

"You can smell the beautiful mint," Gabet says.

Some of it comes from right here.

"We have our Indiana mint. We call it our Indy Mint, and it is truly the finest in the world," Gabet says.

"And then we also have our famous lavender that my husband blends in vintages back in his alcohol room," Gabet says.

She makes each blend right in the showroom, which is open for tours year-round.

"But in the VIP Sensory Tours, we give you just a one-on-one demonstration on how a top not, middle note and bottom note smell, and then we put them together to show you how, being together, they take on a whole new ambiance," Gabet says.
