This weekend kicked off the Kickstart Festival, a new festival in Fort Wayne with a focus on cycling, the arts, and music.  WFFT's Brooke Welch talked with organizers to get a preview of the festival events.

Cycling for adults and kids, music, art, food, and even a fairy tale fest.  The Fort Wayne Kickstart Festival has something for everyone.

"It's not just fitness, it's not just art, it's not just healthy eating, it's everything in one spot.  To really emphasize the fact that you need those parts and pieces to really be healthy and happy."

Event organizer Ruth Stone is expecting a good turnout.

"We've been cooped up all winter, people want to be outside so we are very excited that it looks like the weather is going to clear and people will be coming downtown.  There's a lot to do, a lot to celebrate the reasons that Spring is here."

Events include the Fort4Fitness Spring Cycle Tour, the IPFW Sculpture with A Purpose Dedication of 50 unique bike rack sculptures, the opening of the Barr Street Market, musical and artistic performances, a free trolley, and the 65th anniversary of Visit Fort Wayne.

Visit Fort Wayne CEO Dan O'Connell says this festival kick starts a busy festival season.

"These charity events help sustain the quality of life we have in Fort Wayne.  Get some visitors to come in and spend some money and get some revenue to help sustain operations of these organizations throughout the city."

Most of the events are free and all of the action began Saturday at 9:00am.
