Marcy McKinley helps organize several proms each year at the Grand Wayne Center. She says many high schools will reserve a prom date a year in advance.
Prom season comes with a heightened awareness of alcohol, specifically the dangers of drunk driving. Many students will face random breathalyzer tests at prom this Spring.
Park Ginder is the principal of Homestead High School and he says in addition to police detail at the Grand Wayne Center, several employees will be on hand at Homestead's prom monitoring students.
Parents of course, play a huge role in the safety of their kids on prom night. Having a plan and communicating with teens is important to know where they'll be throughout the evening.
