On Wednesday, 70 WWII veterans had the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. It's all part of a program called Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana.

This is the 13th trip to D.C. organized by Honor Flight. Since the program started, more than 800 veterans have had the opportunity to see the WWII Memorial.

Out of these 70 veterans, about 30 are over the age of 90. In fact, the oldest is 97. There were also two female veterans on-board the plane Wednesday.
The flight left from the Fort Wayne International Airport around 7:30 a.m. The Southside High School Band, Fort Wayne American Legion Band, and Patriot Guard are all expected to be at the airport when the veterans return around 9 p.m.

Honor Flight is not funded through the government. In fact, the organization operates through donations from the community. If you would like to donate or get involved, visit
