The festival is hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and feature handmade Greek food, pastries, drinks, music, dancing, and it's an all around Greek culture experience.
WFFT's Tara Petitt was at Greekfest and has more with all the sights and sounds from the festival.
Greek culture is exactly what it was all about downtown over the last 4 days. From the delicious homemade baklava to the Greek dancing and music, there was something for everyone to get a taste.
"Greekfest, to me, is a chance for our Greek community to share our culture, our food, our tremendous youth- as far as our dance troops... things that we can import in as far as jewelry and pottery, and things like that... it's just a sharing of our whole Greek culture and food."
"It's the dancing and the family atmosphere- it's just very fun- especially in the evenings during Friday and Saturday nights.. there's so many people out there dancing and having a good time and enjoying themselves."Greekfest is all about the music, the drinks, the dancing, and the food.
"We begin the preparations in April and work up until the week of the festival, and we freeze some, and then the week of the festival we bake and syrup those pastries that need to be syruped."
"The food is delicious. It's mostly homemade, locally made lukanako- which is sausage, and the greek pastries are all hand-made by the ladies at the Church."
"I had some terapita and baklava.. it was REALLY good."
"I love the dancers, I love the ice cream, I love the food, I love the drinks, love the gift shop... everything! It's terrific."Frank Makridakis is the 2014 Greekfest Chairman. He and his Greek family have helped out with the event for several years and Makridakis says he has a lot to be proud of.
"Proud, very proud. I'm super proud of being able to hold this. I'm proud of our culture, our heritage, I love watching young kids dancing cause it makes my heart proud. It makes me prideful that there's another generation of kids learning the culture and learning the history behind the dances and learning how to dance and I know the event's gonna carry on for another 34 years."
