We're warming up this week, with a high on Thursday in the 50's. Even though these temperatures might be a nice break from the extreme cold we've experienced this winter, it's also prompting flooding concerns in our area.

A flood watch will be in effect for most of Thursday throughout northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.

To flood-proof your home, make sure that gutters, drains and downspouts are clear of snow and debris. Extend downspouts away from your home. Install a sump pump that will keep water leakage from building up in the basement. You might also want to consider adding flood insurance to your existing homeowner's policy.

Never drive through high water or around barricades at water crossings. Also... Be extra careful at night, it can be difficult to see water on the roadway.

Sandbags will likely be available on Thursday at the Huntington County Community School Corp., weather permitting. Steuben County and city governments are also supplying sand bags at the Angola and Fremont Street Departments and also in Hamilton (3540 Rail Road Street) and the Steuben County Highway (1900 North County Road 200 West).
