If you drive East down Jefferson Boulevard in Fort Wayne, you'll notice the new banner hanging near Swinney Park.

In July you'll see a lot more like it.

The City hung the first of it's Blue Star Banners, honoring the region's service members currently deployed.

The first banner honors Command Sergeant Major Brian Kiess who is serving his 4th tour on duty right now in Haiti.

His parents were at the banner hanging and they say they couldn't be more proud.

"I'm very proud of him, I'm very proud of all the people who are deployed and the sacrifices their families make, his wife and 4 daughters are running like crazy since he's not here to help, but they're very supportive of him.  We're just very proud of him."

The City has received over 100 application so far.

Mayor Tom Henry says they will start putting up the rest the first week in July and when a service member returns home, the City will present the banner to them.
