Aja Michael and Michele Keller raced to the Allen County Courthouse when they heard the news that a Federal Court ruling lifted the ban on same sex marriages in Indiana.

Michael was more than excited and called her partner Keller when she heard the news. Michael explains, "I called her and said do you want to get married again and she's like sure and I said right now, and she said sure so we ran home grabbed something borrowed something blue something old something new and we came down."

Like Michael and Keller, couple Paula Ashe and Kim Myers were shocked this morning when the news broke. Ashe said, "I had no idea that this that it was even going to happen this week let alone today..."

Thad Geradot, Indiana’s first openly gay candidate for State Representative has fought for the past six months on this issue. He said, "I’m thrilled a lot of people here in Indiana have been waiting for this day they're excited they've been married in their hearts for years and they're excited to have the state of Indiana recognize that."

Not everyone is happy from conservative government officials to religious groups. The Attorney General says he will appeal this and Governor Mike Pence’s office released this statement:

"Governor Pence supports this Attorney General's efforts to appeal the Federal Court's ruling and defend Indiana’s right to define the institution of marriage for the residents of our state. Because the governor believes in the rule of law, the state of Indiana will comply with the federal court's order as this case moves through the appeals court."

Religious groups also speaking out today. Advance America director said,

“Eric Miller requested Attorney General Greg Zoeller to file an appeal of the judge's ruling immediately and to request an immediate stay of the ruling to stop homosexual marriages from taking place in Indiana pending an appeal.”
