WFFT's Brooke Welch was in Harlan and has more from shocked residents and authorities about the investigation.
At about 9:00am Monday morning, a masked man entered IAB Financial Bank in Harlan, demanding money and flashing a handgun.
With a population of just less then 1700, residents in Harlan are shocked.
"It's small and quiet. The most we hear are horses clomping by in the evening. It's very low key."
"Very surprised, this is a small town you never hear of anything like that happening around here."
Deanna Foust lives on the same block as the bank and was very surprised to have police officers knocking on her door in the morning.
"Yah, the police came knocking saying if we'd seen a car and I said no, I didn't even know what was going on, so I was pretty shocked, pretty amazed."
Jeremy Tinkle with the Allen County Sheriff's Department says the suspect had on a blue button down shirt.
"Male, white, about 5'7" 20-35 years old, obviously wearing a mask. He did show a handgun. Nobody was injured in the bank."
Tinkle says the suspect fled the scene in a white two door vehicle driven by another male, headed towards Spencerville.
Harlan resident Amy James uses that bank often and says, "In fact, I just got a paycheck this morning. It could have very easily have been us over there. I'm so thankful it wasn't."
James says this should remind everyone to focus on safety.
"If this can happen in a small town like Harlan, it really can happen anywhere."
If you have any information about the robbery, please contact the Allen County Sheriff's Department.
