Colonel Augustine is the Commander of the local 122nd Fighter Wing here in Fort Wayne. Back on April 29th, WFFT was the first to tell you about claims from a whistle blower over at the base accusing the Colonel of overspending your tax money and abusing his command.
The day we received the information from the anonymous source, we forwarded it to the Governor Mike Pence's office and all of our State and Federal Representatives. The next day, Governor Pence made a statement to WFFT.
Here are some of the allegations the whistle blower is accusing Colonel Augustine of doing.
1.) Using an A-10 aircraft as his personal taxi, to fly to Write Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton for a medical checkup after being grounded for medical reasons.
2.) Spent nearly $30,000 dollars to renovate his personal office.
3.) Spent $50,000 dollars of federal dollars and cash raised for private and holiday parties.
4.) Paid for a British artist to fly to Fort Wayne and paint artwork on the base. Then sold replicas and put the cash into a private account.
5.) $100,000 dollars on speech classes for airmen, which is not a federal requirement.
6.) $ 50,000 on a neon entrance sign for the base.
WFFT has learned that Colonel Augustine was investigated back in 2013 for possible wrong doing but was cleared by a General from out of the state.
Over a month ago, WFFT sent Freedom of Information Act paperwork to the Indiana National Guard Headquarters in Indianapolis, requesting all of the documents pertaining to the previous and ongoing investigations of Colonel Augustine. We received an email informing us that our request has now been turned over to the Army National Guard Freedom of Information Act office in Arlington, Virginia for review.
We will of course continue to push for this information to be released so that we can track how your tax dollars are being spent.
