$500,000. That’s how much the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department received as a gift from the Buckner family.

This gift comes from Dr. Suzanne Knoebel, a doctor in Indianapolis who grew up in the Summit City and was a part of the Buckner Family. In her estate she left the Parks Department this money.  Al Moll, the Director of Parks and Recreation, said this money will be used for part of the long term plan to renovate Buckner Park.

Moll said, "We have such a treasured park system that we get gifts every once in awhile normally not this large gifts, but this is probably the largest single gift I can remember from an individual."

Moll said this money will be used to add pathways and a pavilion and eventually a sledding hill at Buckner Park.
