The Ivy Tech Refugee Scholar Program celebrated the first 11 students to complete coursework to begin a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Ivy Tech as well as other organizations in Fort Wayne teamed up to establish better career pathways for refugees out of poverty from Haiti, Burma and Congo.

Bernadette Olivier from Haiti said she plans to take her LPN and RN now that she has completed this program.

"My favorite things I love meeting people I love helping people so that’s a way...I feel I’m on my way now,” said Olivier.

Bernedette said it’s good to educate adults like her to get them to learn the language and get their life on track. Students who have completed the coursework are now working toward earning their certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
