Although this company is best known for recycling copper, brass, aluminum, and iron, Hoosier Metal will recycle anything for you. They will separate your junk so that it doesn't go to waste in a landfill.
You know the saying, one man's junk is another man's treasure!
"The reason why someone should recycle their scrap metal is because then it goes into a cycle, where at the end of the cycle, that scrap of that piece of scrap gets made into another product that then goes out into the world."
Neal Rifkin, Manager at Hoosier Metal Recycling, gave WFFT a tour through the business. They recycle anything. This company processes over 800,000 tons of metal each year, and it's not an easy process.
All of the scrap that comes in to Hoosier Metal gets dismantled or shredded for the recycling process, and it is then sorted into different bins by their 15 employees.
Currently, there are 150 industrial sites within a 60 mile radius of Fort Wayne that uses the services of Hoosier Metal, as well as hundreds of residents.
This is all a truly green process. Hoosier Metal's processing puts back into circulation over $1 million dollars worth of scrap metal every month.
Kurt Henry, Owner of Hoosier Metal, believes in helping to shape a greener community.
"I am proud that we provide this environmental service. I like being in this business for that reason. You'd be surprised how much scrap would be left in vacant area if we didn't recycle them, plus providing a living for many families in the state of Indiana.
If you've never recycled before or you're looking for a place to bring your scraps, you can try visiting a local scrap yard like Hoosier Metal Recycling, so you can go green and make green too!
