You may have grown up with an Etch-A-Sketch.
The Ohio Art Company, based out of Bryan, Ohio, started making them over fifty years ago, and have sold hundreds of millions over that time.
It’s this week's Locally Made Monday.
Besides the iconic Etch-A-Sketch, Ohio Art makes other creative toys and a full-functioning metal lithography company.
It's a history they've drawn up for over one hundred years.
You might have had one of these.
The Ohio Art Company in Bryan, Ohio has sold over 150 million since the 1960s.
"We're in the business of making creativity fun. We're most known for Etch-A-Sketch. This past Saturday, Etch-A-Sketch celebrated its 54th birthday. It's a real icon in the toy industry,” says Vice President of Marketing and Product Development Martin Killgallon says.
The Etch-A-Sketch created the path for Ohio Art's success today.
But it goes far beyond that.
It makes dozens of other creative toys, like these called Nano Blocks.
"You can find our products in Walmart, Toys R Us, Target, Amazon, and specialty toy stores all around the country,” Martin Killgallon says.
And it goes beyond toys as well.
Its metal lithography business turns millions of steel sheets into these products.
"We print on metal, and our customers would take metal sheets that we print and fabricate them into things like bottle tops, paint cans, specialty tins, and nostalgic signs like you might see at TGI Fridays,” Martin Killgallon says.
"It's surprising, the little Ohio Art Company, just about every day, you touch one of our products. You and I probably don't do it, but we do the smokeless tobacco containers for Altria, and those are in every convenience store in the country,” says Ohio Art Company President Larry Killgallon.
And the one hundred employees who work here every day are helping to etch a future sketched for success.
