At just 23 years old, Louie Bowman was drafted into the Navy during WWII. He traveled throughout the pacific from 1944-1945 as a ship engineer. During that time, Louie says he encountered several Kamakaze attacks.
Louie was seriously injured onboard the ship when a chemical he was carrying was knocked to the floor spilling on his chest and arms.
Louie received skin graphs on his arms and spent 9 months recovering from the accident.
About a year ago, the Honor Flight Program in Northeast Indiana gave Louie the opportunity to travel with other WWII vets to Washington DC.
Louie's former wife, Jeanne nominated him to be the Hometown Hero.
